Artist of the Week 3-5-12!

The snow is slowly melting as the temperature rises which means spring is around the corner.  During this time of year I change up my music selection and turn to up beat mellow tunes.  Slightly Stoopid is a band that has a very unique sound and covers many genres including punk rock, reggae rock, dub and acoustic.  Despite not putting out much new music you can still find Slightly Stoopid touring and playing at various blues festivals.   Check it out!

Vaudeville storms Waldorf College this Saturday!

Keeping true to the term ‘Vaudeville,’ this Minneapolis quintet strives to keep a unique variety in their music. After winning a Battle of the Bands, Vaudeville was given the opportunity to record their debut album ‘Dismantle The Sky’ in Nashville. The disc captures the band’s energy and unique sound, solidi

fying them as a force in the Minneapolis music scene. Vaudeville has been growing their fan-base and reputation, selling out venues and b

ecoming one of the most well-known and enjoyed live bands in Minnesota.

Working with ‘Greenlight Music,’ also based out of Minneapolis, Vaudeville has shared the stage with other renowned local bands, such as Machine 22, Green Sweater Society, and Seventh Ascent, and national acts including The Meat Puppets, Forever the Sickest Kids, We The Kings, and Never Shout Never.

Recently Vaudeville released the single ‘Treason’ and has begun work on their sophomore album, due out in mid-2010. Continuing to grow with their talent and dedication to music, Vaudeville is certain to continue on the path they’ve begun and change the face of alternative rock music.

If you are bored and looking for something to do come on over to Waldorf College’s Atrium this Saturday March 3rd at 7 pm.   Be prepared to get your faces rocked off!!

Check out Vaudeville’s awesome music below!

Song of the week 1-24-12

Wordspit the Illest is a good friend of mine straight out of Brooklyn.

If you’ve heard him, you’ve felt him! WordSpit was born and bred in East New York, Brooklyn to a young mother and a hustling musician for a father. With humble beginnings as his inspiration, WordSpit realized his gift for lyrics in the third grade and has been honing his craft ever since. Having been dubbed “WordSpit” by his brother, he set out to ensure that the verses that flew from his lips were nothing short of potent. From corners to lunchrooms, from Youtube to your television set, WordSpit’s word play has become an inescapable force that one can’t help but succumb to. Having Cannibus, Nas, and Rakim as influences, combined with an energetic and charismatic stage presence, WordSpit is the representation of everything that has been great about hip-hop in the past and takes it to the next level.

Check it out!

30-Seconds-to-Mars-Unplugged-EP

Song of the Week 1-16-12

30 Seconds To Mars is an amazing band as far as raw talent goes.  I chose this weeks song for multiple reasons, its acoustic, it’s live and it’s a U2 cover.  What more could you ask for?!

Echoes Of Silence

Featured Artist 1-9-12

I’ve been jamming The Weeknd for a while now, well since he dropped his first mixtape/EP in the fall.
Classifying The Weeknd as RnB is wrong, i should be slapped for doing so, he blends together every feeling that goes with love, anger, sadness, regret, and most of all euphoria.  Every song has this grimy undertone that just screams “dirty love making music”.  I warn you now, you may want to shower after listening to any of his songs.

I chose this weeks song due to it being a Michael Jackson cover of “Dirty Diana”, Check it out below!

The Weeknd also has three albums available for download for FREE via his website!
